*UPDATE * – URL now links to working copy

Example :

Download FLA:

There’s an example of the flash based xml search that I plan to write a tutorial for over the weekend since I still don’t have internet. And as of now, it seems complete and I haven’t encountered any bugs yet…

So this is what the script has:

Title/Content searching
Linking (using deeplinking)
Search Word Highlighting
Search result trimming (50 characters on either side of the word)
Word completion during trimming (If at 50 characters the trimming would cut a word in half it will include the whole word)
Searches on button press and on pressing enter.
Shows multiple results
Handles special characters
Handles Like (searching kit will return KITty)
Clears results on new search.
Displays message when term isn’t found
Searches must be more than 3 characters long

I think that covers the extent on it’s details. I have no clue how long it will be on that server so I am working on just getting some free server space for examples. I will be back with code and tutorials ^_^

  3. Hey, sorry I had to pull it off that server. I only got my internet back today so I will try later this afternoon to find a free webspace to throw my examples on.

I will update the post later tonight with the new link. I will hopefully have the .fla downloadable.

If ya need any help understanding what I did feel free to post back here or email me.

Also if ya use my script, please give a little credit ^_^ I do make a living making these scripts.

  6. Awesome! I’m using your script for a desktop app I’m building. I was previously using a database file (using Zinc’s database support). The xml version is way way faster & the data file is about 1% of the original size!!!

  11. This is just what the doctor ordered. Thanks Doc!
I still don’t quite understand the ins and outs of the script yet but I’m doing my best.
For reasons I hope somebody can explain, I’m getting huge gaps between search results. Also, how can the user be directed to a particular movie clip when they click on the link.
    Thanks once again
